JULY – gosh half way through the Season. Hopefully the weather will improve for our Wednesday Afternoon Bowls and get together. We were unable to play on 2 Wednesdays but the sun shone for the Centenary Quaich, with a good turnout to take part in the Competition which was won by Moira Purves and Jenny Clark. Congratulations also to our Fours consisting of Billie McKinnell, Wilma Tully, Marjorie Campbell and Margo Dunn who got to the District Final of the ESWBA and lost by 1 shot. The Heather League has had mixed fortunes – won some – lost some – but all the Ladies enjoyed playing against the other Clubs.

We also had a Match at home against Maitland, followed by afternoon tea. Great afternoon and good friendship. Talking about Maitland Bowling Club on Saturday we host the annual Councillor’s Cup which is a long standing competition between the two villages of Blackhall and Davidsons Mains Bowling Clubs. This is a mixed competition and is always well subscribed. After the match there will be a meal by outside Caterers. I am quite sure there will be the usual ‘friendly rivalry’ between the two Clubs and enjoyed by all.

Wednesday 17th is the Ladies Final followed by Fizz and Strawberries. Everyone is welcome to a great Competition.

The Coaching continues on a Saturday morning from 10.00. Anyone who wishes to take advantage of some coaching either as a beginner or as an improver come along, you will be very welcome.

The Annual BBQ will be held on 20th July. Bowls followed by the BBQ. There is also a Country and Western singer after the BBQ. Get your Cowboy Hat on and ‘yee ha’

The Ladies Captain, Barbara Sherman, has chosen the local Charity ‘Hopscotch’ for the annual Charity Day which will be held on 7th August. This Charity situated in Silverknowes, takes children away for a holiday who would not normally have this opportunity. There will be a Speaker to explain the work of the Charity. Put this in your diary.
